Summer 2006: Geddy Mason, 59, has lived in Israel since his mid-twenties. He's happily married and the father of three grown children. Via the Internet, he discovers Annie Yousefian will be the featured speaker at an end-of-summer conference in Ottawa, Canada. Annie, an Iranian photo artist living in Tehran, is Geddy's long-ago lover. Though they haven't been in touch for more than thirty-five years and though Geddy fears Annie might turn him away, he decides to go unannounced to see her.
1970-71: When Geddy and Annie fall in love on an Indiana campus, they are destined to part. Geddy, a 23-year-old Canadian Jew, and Annie, 17, from a well-to-do Muslim family, "What will we do?" From the moment of their inevitable parting, the unfinished business of their star-crossed love story haunts them.
